No time for roasting my flesh in the sun as the radio show rolls on into the summer. Not so many releases at this time of year but I've been receiving plenty of good promos from projects that will be released once everyone gets their lazy arses back to work in September and onwards.

The Phantogram album is coming on BBE and sees a bit of a departure for the label with this mixture of shoegaze, pop, electronica underpinned by some great drums, often hip hop flavoured - a really unique sound, make sure you check it. The Strange New World of Bernard Fevre is without doubt one the albums of the year and definitely the most mysterious. Red Snapper are back and have created a dream team by asking Robert Logan for a remix and Oblong has created a majestic slice of pop flavoured house music which by rights should be ripping up every sunny dancefloor this summer.

I also dig out a classic slice of Malik Alston. One of the unsung Detroit heroes he has worked with the likes of Dwele, Slum Village and Recloose - hear why here. The Kindred Spirits Ensemble are part of a new wave of spiritual jazz warriors alongside Nat Birchall and Finn Peters and are about to release a welcome album of covers bringing back to life some of the genres classic tracks. The Radek Azul Band are a great new soul jazz outfit coming out of France and promising big things.

Mr. Bongo have picked up the Jose Conde Y Ola Fresca album for release later this year and it's a real mix of Latin rhythms, great tropical fusion as befitting a group from the New York cultural melting pot. Comfort Fit have come through with a really interesting album of experimental beats and varied vocal styles even including Mr. Nice, Howard Marks! The Herbaliser band are dropping their second album and Wah-Chu-Ku is gracing Drumpoet Community with some great future beats.
