There's a really nice global flavour in this weeks show as I catch up on some world music album buying which tends to go through phases rather than be constant. Kicking off with more Dub Colossus and some wonderful jazzy Ethiopian dub closely followed by a second play for Joker's dubstep rework of Bristol's funky rockers, The Heavy. Tres Records keep up the independent hip hop pressure with another great release and hot new Tru-Thoughts signing Stonephace gives Kinny a little drum and bass rework.
I give you another slice of unreleased Kinnego Flux and a some Caribbean soul and funk from the re-energised Strut Records. Soul Jazz records can always be relied on to release well thought out compilations and Brazil 70 their collection of post Tropicalia Brasilian artists is no exception, check the Erasmo Carlos track. Keeping it Brasilian I also drop a track from the excellent Beto Villares album which explores his interest in all aspects of his countries rich musical diversity.
Lura is one of the new generation of singers from Cape Verde building on the exposure of the islands music created by the success of Cesaria Evora. Rokia Traore isn't news to most world music fans but to anyone who hasn't explored the music of Africa and Mali in particular she has quite simply got one of the best voices in the world. Peter Fish was better known for his work in tv and film music in New York in the 70's but he also found time to record some great jazz which you can now listen to courtesy of the great re-issue series from Kindred Spirits. Linkwood has slowly been making a name for himself amongst the lovers of the deeper side of house music and is about to release a great album full of boogie, disco, electro, dub and house flavours on the pleasingly reliable Prime Numbers label. On the Tears tracks that I played from him I am happy to report a rare appearance from Reggie Watts on vocals a great vocal talent and full time comedian! Finishing the show is SelfSays a young but promising MC talent from the UK riding a neat little Bullion produced beat.

I've been checking the new book 'From Jazz Funk & Fusion To Acid Jazz - The History of The UK Jazz Dance Scene' by Mark 'Snowboy' Cotgrove this week and can't recommend it highly enough for anyone with an interest in the scene, the music or dance in general. It also offers a fascinating insight into an important period for the development of black music in the UK and is chock full of interesting interviews with all of the major players in the scene - great work. It's also inspired me to check out some old jazz dance footage, here's a little taste:
